PEER TO PEER FUNDRAISING

Peer to Peer Fundraising Packages

Turn your community's passion into fundraising power with peer-to-peer campaigns.

Somewhere in your community right now, your mission is already spreading. A parent is explaining a diagnosis to a friend. A board member is making an introduction to a potential new donor. Someone is forwarding your resource at midnight because they couldn't sleep. This is how rare disease awareness multiplies. Person to person. Story to story.

Peer-to-peer fundraising doesn't create that energy. It organizes it. What makes rare disease communities different is that the trust is already there. Families, patients, and advocates have spent years building deep relationships around a shared experience. When they ask someone to give, that ask lands differently because it comes from someone who has lived it.

Peer-to-peer fundraising is fueled by the power of personal connection. It gives your supporters something concrete to do with that motivation, and turns those deeply personal connections into a coordinated campaign that extends far beyond your current audience.

A conversation becomes a fundraising page. An introduction leads to five new donors. A story, told by the right person to the right friend, becomes a gift that funds your next breakthrough.

The passion is already there. We help you build the structure that multiplies the impact. Rare Impact Agency designs two types of peer-to-peer fundraising campaigns for rare disease foundations: Digital and Event-Based. We provide all of the toolkits, scripts, graphics, and strategy that your team and community need to invite new donors into your cause.

Your Supporters Are Your Greatest Fundraising Asset

"Campaigns with a peer-to-peer element raise 3.8 times more than other time-based campaigns."— GoFundMe Pro, State of Modern Philanthropy

Peer-to-peer fundraising is a great way to channel the power of your rare disease community by giving them a structured, joyful way to raise funds, share their stories, and expand your mission into every corner of their personal networks. Hope is contagious. Together, let’s spark it!

Two Types of P2P Campaigns

Each campaign is designed to make participation easy, joyful, and effective.

A digital peer-to-peer campaign runs over a defined four-week window with a full 10-week cycle, including preparation, launch, active engagement, and post-campaign stewardship. Supporters, board members, and advocates create personal fundraising pages and invite their networks to give, extending your reach far beyond your existing donor base. Often these are run for Awareness Days, Anniversaries, Rare Disease Day, and more.

How it works:

  • Pre-Campaign (4 weeks out): Secure matching gifts, recruit Campaign Captains, set up your platform (Givebutter or Bloomerang/Qgiv), and build early momentum.
  • Week 1 — Launch: Announce the campaign and activate your first matching gift to inspire early giving.
  • Week 2 — Storytelling: Share mission-driven stories from patients, families, and advocates to sustain momentum.
  • Week 3 — Mid-Campaign Update: Report progress, celebrate milestones, and re-engage supporters.
  • Week 4 — Final Push: Unlock a closing match to inspire last-minute gifts and close strong.
  • Post-Campaign (2 weeks): Thank donors, celebrate Captains, collect stories, and welcome new supporters into your community.

What makes it work:

  • Campaign Captains are trusted community members who raise money on your behalf and bring in first-time donors
  • Personal Fundraising Pages: Each Captain creates their own page, sets a goal, and invites their network to give in support of their participation.
  • Strategic matching gifts at launch and close to create urgency and inspire giving
  • Easy-to-use toolkits with email scripts and social media templates
  • Weekly themed communications that maintain energy throughout the campaign
  • A structured stewardship plan that converts new P2P donors into long-term supporters

Event-based peer-to-peer fundraising pairs the energy of a shared experience with the power of community-driven giving. Often events are held in neighborhoods all over the world like 5Ks, virtual walk/run/rolls, golf or pickleball tournaments, dance-a-thons, or any gathering where team captains rally their personal networks to participate in a live event. These campaigns converge on a single day or weekend and create visible, celebratory moments for your community while driving real fundraising results.

How it works:

  • Captain Recruitment: Identify community leaders: families, advocates, board members, etc. to lead fundraising teams.
  • Personal Fundraising Pages: Each Captain creates their own page, sets a goal, and invites their network to give in support of their participation.
  • Team Momentum: Captains rally their communities, creating friendly competition and a sense of shared purpose around the event.
  • Event Day Celebration: The events happening all over the world on a single day/weekend becomes a visible, joyful demonstration of your community's commitment to the mission.
  • Follow-Up and Stewardship: New donors are welcomed into your community with a thoughtful post-event sequence that builds lasting relationships.

What makes it work:

  • Campaign Captains are trusted community members who raise money on your behalf and bring in first-time donors
  • Easy-to-use toolkits with email scripts and social media design templates
  • Branded event materials for Captains to use in their community
  • Weekly themed communications that maintain energy throughout the campaign
  • Unified Day of Activity where events all over the globe happen on the same day/weekend and ripple out in impact
  • A structured stewardship plan that converts new P2P donors into long-term supporters

Peer to Peer Fundraising FAQs

Peer to peer fundraising is a community-driven strategy where your supporters raise money on your behalf by creating personal fundraising pages and inviting their own networks to give. Instead of asking for a gift, you're inviting someone to become a fundraiser and to share their story and inspire the people they love to donate. The result is expanded reach, new donor relationships, and a campaign that feels personal at every level.

The active campaign runs for four weeks, but the full campaign cycle is approximately 10 weeks — including pre-campaign preparation, the launch, four weeks of active fundraising, and two weeks of post-campaign stewardship and follow-up. We design the tools for you to run your campaign with ease.

Our team provides everything you need to run an effective campaign. We provide campaign strategy and concrete guidelines, theme + unique campaign design, email templates for you and your Captains, toolkits for you and your Captains, customizable social media graphic templates, and tons of advice for how to transform first-time donors into long-time supporters. The event-specific campaigns include more collateral for your Captains to get the word out about the event.

This is one of the most important questions in P2P fundraising, and we take it seriously. Donors who come in through Captains gave because someone they love asked them to—not necessarily because they already knew your mission. We build a dedicated welcome sequence and stewardship plan to bridge that gap, introduce your foundation, and give those donors a meaningful reason to stay. The goal is to turn first-time givers into long-term believers.

Absolutely. Rare disease communities are built on deep personal connections — patients, parents, advocates, and supporters who are invested in the mission in ways that go beyond a standard donor relationship. That intimacy is exactly what makes peer to peer fundraising so effective in this space. When someone in your community fundraises on your behalf, they're not just raising money. They're sharing their story and inviting people who trust them into something that matters deeply to them.
